روزهای آخر اسفند صدایش حس نوستالژی نوروز را به نسل امروز یادآوری می‌کند. انگار فقط در زمان کوتاه باید شنیده شود. فرهاد مهراد خوانده و موزیسین نام آشنا از دوران طلایی دهه ۵۰ که با خلاف جریان های اصلی موسیقی آن دوره مانده گار شد، مهراد با علاقه و استعدادی که از کودکی به یادگیری موسیقی داشت و در کانون خانواده حمایت شد در اول راه کارش در کوچینی با گروه بلک کتس ترانه های انگلیسی را کاور می‌کرد. او از ابتدا اهمیت مسئولیت هنرمند معتهد را درک کرد به نقل دوستانش بیشتر دستمزد اجرای کارهایش را خرج گروه می‌کرد. فرهاد با تفکری که پول رو آلودگی می‌دانست قدم در این راه گذاشت گرچه سخت. در سال ۱۳۴۸ مسعودکیمیایی و اسفندیارمنفردزاده برای فیلم «رضاموتوری» در جستجوی صدای متفاوت در موسیقی پاپ(معترضانه) بودند. اجرای فرهاد و جنس خاص صدایش نظر آنها را جلب کرد و دری بسوی فعالیت هنری فرهاد گشوده شد و صدایش سرآغاز موج نو در موسیقی اجتماعی و اعتراضی شد. تاثیرپذیری فرهادمهراد از شهیار قنبری (ترانه سرا) با مضمون اجتماعی، اسفندیار منفرد زاده (آهنگساز) بعدتر با ذوق نبوغ موسیقی که از خود نشان داد افراد سرشناس دیگر مانده وارژان فقید و شاملو همکاری کردند و آثاری چون، جمعه ، هفته خاکستری ، آینه ،شبانه ۱،۲، خسته، گنجیشک ، کودکانه …ودر اقشار جامه اعم دانشجو و روشنفکر جایگاهی پیدا کرد و هنوز هم بعد از مدت‌ها آثارشان ماند گار است. شخصیت هوشیار مهراد تسلط و آگاهی به مسائل روز جامعه و اجتماعی او را در مسیری قرار داد که هرگز نگذاشت دچار ابتذال بشود. آوازخوانی که برای موفقیت تن به پلشتی و مطربی نداد، در اولین روزهای انقلاب با موسیقی منفردزاده شعر وحدت از سیاوش کسرایی را اجراء کرد و بسیار تاثیرگذار اما دیری نگذشت با تمام ناملایمت ها و زندان قبل انقلاب تا مدت زیادی کنار گذاشته شد و بی صدا و بی حاشیه در وطن ماند و سکوت کرد تا تنها توانست یک کنسرت و یک آلبوم منتشر کند صدافسوس ……امیدوارم با رعایت حقوق هنرمندان بشود آثارشان تهیه و پخش شود.
