ترجمه فارسی یک رُمان آمریکایی درباره فجایع دوران حکومت خمر روژها در کامبوج منتشر شد.

این رمان که توسط نویسنده آمریکایی، پارتیشیا مک کورمیک با عنوان «هرگز نیفت» نوشته شده، به‌قلم رضا عابدین‌زاده در 250 صفحه به فارسی برگردانده و توسط نشر آرادمان در آستانهٔ نمایشگاه کتاب تهران منتشر شده است.

در ابتدای این کتاب آمده است: «پاتریشیا مک کورمیک (متولد 1956) روزنامه‌نگار و نویسندهٔ آمریکایی است. او تاکنون دو بار نامزد دریافت جایزهٔ کتاب ملی آمریکا شده که یک‌بار آن برای همین اثر (هرگز نیفت) بوده است. فارغ‌التحصیل روزنامه‌نگاری از دانشگاه کلومبیا آمریکاست و در حال حاضر در نیویورک اقامت دارد و با روزنامه‌های نیویورک تایمز و دیگر روزنامه‌ها و مطبوعات معتبر همکاری دارد. برای نوشتن کتاب (هرگز نیفت) یک ماه را در کامبوج گذرانده است. از دیگر آثار معروف او، به «قلب ارغوانی» و «فروخته‌شده» می‌توان اشاره کرد. جفری براون کارگردان آمریکایی با اقتباس از «فروخته‌شده» فیلمی به همین نام ساخته است.»

در ادامه، به نقل از مک‌کورمیک نیز که برای نگارش این رُمان یک سفر یک ماهه به کامبوج داشته و مدت دو سال هم ساعت‌ها با شخصیت اصلی داستانش در آمریکا دیدار و گفت‌وگوهایی داشته، آمده است: «هنگامی که آرن کرن ـ پوند یازده ساله بود رژیم کمونیستی افراط‌گرای خمرروژ در کامبوج به قدرت رسید و مردم را در اردوگاه‌های کار در زمین‌های کشاورزی خارج از شهرها جمع کرد. اعضای خانواده‌ها از هم جدا شدند و همه از جمله بچه‌ها مجبور شدند بر روی شالیزارها ساعت‌ها کار فرسایندهٔ نشاء و کاشت برنج را انجام دهند. ده‌ها هزار نفر بر اثر گرسنگی، کار زیاد و بیماری جان باختند. اغلب آن‌ها شکنجه می‌شدند و به اجبار اعتراف می‌کردند که خائن و وطن‌فروشند، سپس آن‌ها را می‌کشتند و در گورهای دسته جمعی دفن می‌کردند که امروزه به آنها میدان‌های کشتار می‌گویند.

نزدیک به دو میلیون نفر که یک چهارم جمعیت را تشکیل می‌دادند، جان خود را از دست دادند. این فجیع‌ترین قتل عامی است که تاکنون کشوری در مورد مردم سرزمین خودش انجام داده است.»

نشر آرادمان «هرگز نیفت» را در 250 صفحه با طراحی جلد حمیدرضا بیدقی براساس یکی از عکس‌های مهرداد اسکویی – فیلمساز و عکاس – در سفر به کامبوج، منتشر کرده است.

سی‌امین نمایشگاه بین‌المللی کتاب تهران از 13 تا 23 اردیبهشت‌ماه در محل شهر آفتاب برگزار می‌شود.
