وقتی صدام حسین در روز 31 شهریور سال 1359 با تمام قوای نظامی ارتش بعثی عراق به خاک ایران حمله کرد، انتظار داشت تا ظرف حداکثر چند هفته، استان خوزستان را از ایران جدا نموده و شهرهای مرزی غرب کشور مانند نفت شهر، قصر شیرین، سرپل ذهاب، گیلان غرب، اسلام آباد، مهران، دهلران و … را تصرف نماید و به پیروزی بزرگی نایل شود. این در حالی بود که تنها حدود یکسال و نیم از پیروزی انقلاب اسلامی می گذشت و ایران در حال ایجاد ساز و کارها و ساختارهای نوینی در نظام حکومتی جدید خود که جمهوری اسلامی است بود. صدام حسین تصور می کرد در این تهاجم نظامی همه جانبه، ایران قدرت مقاومت و ایستادگی در برابر ارتش مجهز عراق را ندارد و به سرعت تسلیم شده و شکست خواهد خورد. در آن زمان صدام از سوی قدرتهای بزرگ جهانی مانند شوروی، امریکا و اروپا حمایت نظامی، سیاسی و تبلیغاتی می شد و بسیاری از سران کشورهای عربی نیز خود را در کنار او می دیدند.
اولین گلوله توپ را صدام بعثی – که هم پیمان شوروی بود – به همراه شاه حسین اردنی – که وابسته به امریکا بود – به سمت خاک ایران پرتاب کردند. از سوی دیگر در آن زمان، ایران انتظار و تصور حمله نظامی سراسری را از سوی همسایه غربی خود نداشت و به همین علت بسیاری از واحدهای ارتش ایران در پادگان ها و پایگاه های خود به سر می بردند. برای مثال امیر سیروس لطفی فرمانده لشکر 16 زرهی قزوین در روزهای آغاز جنگ، در نهمین همایش پیشکسوتان جهاد شهادت که در تاریخ دوشنبه 18 شهریور 87 در مسجد ولیعصر تهران برگزار شد، اعلام کرد که در روز 31 شهریور که جنگ تحمیلی آغاز شد، در ساختمان ستاد فرماندهی لشکر در قزوین بودم که ابتدا شهید فلاحی رئیس وقت ستاد مشترک ارتش و سپس بنی صدر رئیس جمهور وقت با من تماس گرفتند و گفتند که لشکر را به منطقه جنگی خوزستان منتقل کن. به دلیل کمبود تریلی و کمرشکن و نیز امکانات حمل و نقل یک ماه طول کشید تا همه واحدهای لشکر را به دزفول رساندم.
سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامی نیز که در آن روزها در اوایل عمر خود به سر می برد هیچ تصور و ادراکی از یک جنگ تمام عیار و جنگیدن با یک ارتش مجهز را نداشت. در روزهای آغازین جنگ سطح اطلاعات و دانش نظامی سپاه، اندک بود و ساختار سازمانی آن هم به صورت نظامی شکل نگرفته بود. غیر از سلاح های انفرادی، هیچگونه تجهیزات و تسلیحات سنگین و نیمه سنگین در اختیار نداشت؛ حتی سپاه شهرهای استان های مرزی مانند خوزستان، ایلام و کرمانشاه که خط مقدم جبهه به شمار می رفتند، راکت انداز آرپیجی 7 هم در اختیار نداشتند.البته ارتش هم تجربه هیچ جنگ گسترده ای را در اختیار نداشت و جنگ تحمیلی اولین آزمون نبرد میدانی برای ارتش تلقی می شد.
از سوی دیگر امریکا که احساس می کرد کشور مهم ایران را از دست داده است، جمهوری اسلامی را تحریم تسلیحاتی کرده بود و شوروی هم به دلیل مخالفت ایران با اشغال افغانستان از سوی ارتش سرخ و پنبه شدن تفکر مارکسیسم با ظهور انقلاب اسلامی، دل خوشی از ایران نداشت. شاهان حاکم بر کشورهای عربی جنوب خلیج فارس و نیز روسای کشورهایی مانند اردن و مصر نیز نگران تاج و تخت خود بودند و بخاطر نگرانی از تکرار نهضت اسلامی در سرزمین های خویش به دنبال راهی برای ناکام گذاشتن انقلاب اسلامی می گشتند. صدام که فضای محیط بین المللی را آماده می دید و ایران را در شرایط ضعف قوای نظامی و سیاسی تصور و ارزیابی می کرد با اطمینان از پیروزی خویش، می خواست تا قهرمان جهان عرب شده و بر همین مبنا خود را “سردار قادسیه” می نامید. او احساس می کرد با حمله به ایران، هم جمهوری اسلامی را به شکست می کشاند، هم مدال افتخار از سوی قدرت های شیطانی را دریافت می کند و هم از تداوم حکومت خود، اطمینان می یابد.
حال پس از گذشت 38 سال از پایان تهاجم ارتش صدام، مشاهده می شود که این جنگ نه تنها هیچ دستاوردی برای صدام و حزب بعث عراق در برنداشته است، بلکه موجب سرنگونی و اعدام صدام حسین و اضمحلال حزب و ارتش بعث عراق و از بین رفتن حاکمیت استبداد و دیکتاتوری در منطقه بین النهرین شده است.
اما چگونه ایران توانست دشمن خود را ناکام گذاشته و تهدید عظیم جنگ را تبدیل به فرصتی بزرگ برای تثبیت جمهوری اسلامی و توسعه قدرت پایداری و نفوذ خود بنماید؟ به نظر می رسد که مهم ترین عامل را باید حضور و نقش موثر اقشار مختلف مردم در جبهه های دفاع از کشور دانست که با فداکاری کم نظیر در مقابل تجاوز ارتش عراق ایستادند و به خوبی نیروی محرکه و انگیزه بخش همه قوای مسلح شدند. علاوه بر آن عوامل ذیل نقشی اساسی را در موفقیت و پیروزی ایران در جریان جنگ تحمیلی داشته اند:
1–دیدگاه ها و اقدامات حضرت امام خمینی (ره) در طول جنگ تحمیلی
نوع تفکر و نظرات امام خمینی (ره) نقشی تعیین کننده ای در عدم نگرانی مردم از بروز جنگ و همچنین ایجاد روحیه ای مصمم در آنان برای مقابله با دشمن، پدید آورد. ایشان با تبیین ماهیت تهاجم صدام به ایران، در همان روز 31 شهریور می فرمایند: «ارتش عراق باید بداند که این جنگ، جنگ با اسلام است به هواداری کفر، و یک همچو جنگی بر خلاف رضای خداست.» همچنین ایشان در تاریخ 2 مهرماه 1359 می فرمایند: “این جنگ بین ایران و بعثی های عراق، جنگ بین “اسلام و کفر” و “قرآن کریم و الحاد” است. از این جهت بر همه شما و ما مسلمانان جهان لازم است از اسلام عزیز و قرآن کریم دفاع کنیم و این خیانت کاران را به جهنم بفرستیم”. بر این اساس، امام امت (ره) شرکت در این جنگ و دفاع از جمهوری اسلامی را به عنوان دفاع از اسلام تلقی کرده و روح مقاومت را در بین اقشار مختلف ملت ایران دمیدند. امام (ره)، همواره جنگ را در رأس امور می دانستند و می فرمودند “اگر این جنگ 20 سال هم طول بکشد، ما ایستاده ایم”.
نگاه حضرت امام (ره) به جنگ باعث شد تا دولت مردان نیز لباس خاکی بسیجی را بر تن کرده و پشتیبانی از رزمندگان را اولویت کار خود تلقی نمایند. گرچه با طولانی شدن جنگ، رزمندگان اسلام توقع بیشتری برای حمایت و توسعه قدرت رزمی کشور داشتند. همچنین امام در پیام خود در 3 مهر 1359 فرمودند: “ما متکی به خدا هستیم و با اتکا به خدا از هیچ چیز ترسی نداریم و شما ملت عزیز مجتمع باشید، مصمم باشید و از هیچ چیز هراس نداشته باشید که هراسی هم نیست”. امام(ره) در 4 مهر1359 نیز فرمودند: “قوای انتظامی، نظامی و سپاه پاسداران ما مجهز به قوه الهی هستند. سلاحشان الله اکبر است و هیچ سلاحی در عالم مقابل همچو سلاحی نیست. ملت ما هم، همینطور است”. با بررسی سخنان حضرت امام (ره) در طول جنگ تحمیلی، مشخص می شود که ایشان نقش اول را در نترسیدن مردم از جنگ و تشویق آنها به حضور در جبهه ها و سازماندهی و ظهور قدرت ملت ایران در برابر تجاوز دشمن داشته اند.
2– حضور فعال قوای مسلح و بسیجیان داوطلب در رویارویی با قوای دشمن
واحدهایی از ارتش و سپاه که در استان های مرزی حضور داشتند بلافاصله پس از تهاجم ارتش بعثی به سرزمین ایران با کمک مردم مناطق تحت هجوم ارتش دشمن، نگذاشتند که قوای بعثی، همه اهداف نظامی از پیش تعیین شده خود را در هفته های اول جنگ به تصرف درآورند. اشغال خرمشهر با مقاومت مردم و نیروهای مسلح 35 روز به طول انجامید. دشمن نتوانست در محور اهواز پیش روی کرده و از حمیدیه جلوتر آمده و مرکز استان خوزستان را به تصرف خود درآورد. آبادان را محاصره کرد ولی ایستادگی مردم و رزمندگان نگذاشت تا این شهر به دست لشکر 3 زرهی دشمن بعثی بیفتد. ارتش صدام نتوانست از پل نادری عبور کند تا به سمت دزفول حرکت نماید و بتواند شوش را تصرف نموده و جاده اندیمشک- اهواز را به اختیار خود درآورد. مقاومت در شهرهایی مانند گیلان غرب، اسلام آباد، قصرشیرین در منطقه غرب کشور هم مانع از پیشروی دشمن به اهداف مورد نظر خود و پیش روی به سوی کرمانشاه شد. بنابراین ایستادگی همه جانبه مردم و نیروهای مسلح در روز های آغازین جنگ تحمیلی باعث شد تا دشمن در نهایت، بدون تکمیل برنامه نظامی خود، زمین گیر شده و خط دفاعی نامناسبی را تشکیل دهد. البته رژیم صدام حسین پس از اطمینان از عدم امکان پیشروی بیشتردر خاک ایران، تلاش نمود تا سرزمین های اشغالی را حفظ کرده و با درخواست آتش بس از ایران، از ادامه مقاومت رزمندگان اسلام جلوگیری نماید و با این ترفند، بدون ادامه درگیری ها، حدود 17000 کیلومتر مربع سرزمین های اشغال شده ایران را در تصرف خود نگه دارد.
3– وجود یک فرماندهی خلاق در میدان جنگ
گرچه در ماه های اول شروع جنگ تحمیلی، اداره جبهه های ایران، از یک فرماندهی یکپارچه و منسجمی برخوردار نبود، ولی آرام آرام مدیریت جبهه های جنگ، سر و سامانی به خود گرفت و به خصوص از سال دوم جنگ با هماهنگی بین سپاه و ارتش، فرماندهان حاضر در جبهه ها توانستند ابتکار عمل را به دست گرفته و با تثبیت دشمن، تدابیری را اتخاذ نمایند و راه حل هایی را برای بیرون راندن ارتش بعثی از خاک کشور عزیز، با کمک حضور گسترده داوطلبان بسیجی و سلحشوران نظامی ارائه کنند و به اجرا در آورند.
خلاقیت این فرماندهی، موجب شد تا با کسب اطلاعات صحیح و درست از نحوه گسترش و آرایش دشمن، طرح ریزی های مناسبی برای اجرای عملیات های پی در پی برای آزادسازی سرزمین های اشغالی انجام شود. برآوردهای صحیح و واقع نگری نسبت به دشمن در این شرایط زمانی نقش مهمی در این موفقیت ها ایفا نمود.
لازم به ذکر است که در ماه های اول جنگ، به دلیل عدم تجربه و نیز اشتباهات صورت گرفته در برآورد درست از استعداد و توان دشمن و نیز خطا در طرح ریزی عملیات ها موجب شد تا چهار عملیات صورت گرفته از سوی سلحشوران ارتش در ماه های اولیه جنگ به شکست منجر شده و برخی از تجهیزات و جنگ افزارهای آنها نیز از دست برود. در این رابطه فرمانده لشکر 16 زرهی قزوین در روزهای اول جنگ، می گوید: “در حمله 15 دی ماه 1359 به دلیل برآورد غلط، لشکر 16 زرهی را در مقابل استعداد حدود یک سپاه از ارتش عراق قرار دادند و باعث ناکامی این لشکر شدند”. گرچه رزمندگان این لشکر به همراه برخی از دانشجویان پیرو خط امام از جمله شهید حسین علم الهدی که به صورت داوطلبانه به جبهه های جنگ آمده بودند به خوبی با دشمن جنگیدند و حدود 130 نفر از آنها نیز به شهادت رسیدند ولی در نهایت مجبور شدند به مواضع قبلی خود عقب نشینی نمایند.
به این ترتیب مشخص می گردد که عامل اصلی شکست عملیات های چند ماه اول جنگ، در حمله به پل نادری در منطقه غرب دزفول در 21 مهر ماه سال 1359 و نیز حمله لشکر 77 در آبان ماه 1359 برای شکستن حصر آبادان و نیز عملیات توکل، به دلیل طرح مانور نامناسب و عدم اطلاع کافی از وضعیت و توان دشمن بوده است.
از سال دوم جنگ، با میدان یافتن وسیعتر سپاه و ایجاد هماهنگی بیشتر و بهتر بین ارتش و سپاه، و همچنین حضور انبوه رزمندگان داوطلب و با ایمان، قدرت عظیمی در جبهه های جنگ خلق شد که توانست نقاط ضعف دشمن را پیدا نموده و با طرح های ابتکاری و با تمرکز قوا عملیات های سلسله واری را همانند ثامن الائمه، طریق القدس، فتح المبین و بیت المقدس برنامه ریزی کرده و قوای ارتش بعثی را با جهاد بزرگ و تلاش مستمر از سرزمین های ایران ، اخراج نماید.
بنابراین می توان گفت که رمز موفقیت ایران در جنگ تحمیلی، نوع نگاه و “طرز تفکر حضرت امام خمینی” (ره) به عنوان رهبر پر نفوذ ملت ایران و فرمانده عالی جنگ از یک سو، “پشتوانه عظیم مردم ایران” از نظام جمهوری اسلامی و از رزمندگان اسلام در جبهه های جنگ از سوی دیگر، و “تشکیل قدرت جدید” و مکمل از سوی رزمندگان داوطلب بسیجی برای تغییر موازنه قوا به نفع ایران، و نیز حضور یک “فرماندهی مبتکر و مقتدر” در جبهه های جنگ که توانست با خلاقیت خود، طرح های عملیاتی مناسبی را علیه دشمن به کار گیرد و همچنین توسعه ساختار و سازمان جنگی ایران با کمک انبوه نیروهای داوطلب مردمی و “اعتقاد به نصرت و پیروزی الهی” بوده است؛ در دوران دفاع مقدس همه رزمندگان معتقد بودند “ان تنصرالله ینصرکم و یثبّت اقدامکم” و همچنین “ان تنصرالله فلا غالب لکم” .
