علیاصغر حکمت شیرازی از جمله رجال فرهنگی و سیاسی عصر پهلوی است که کارنامهای پرفراز و نشیب دارد. حکایت حکمت حکایت نسلی است که از مشروطه سر برآورد و در دورهی رضاشاه تجربهی دولتمردی را از سر گذراند، تجربهای که با نوسازی در حوزههای گوناگون همراه بود. این نوسازی از اهداف مشروطه بود، اما در حوزهی سیاست میراث مشروطه پاس داشته نشد.
نسل حکمت در بیم و امید، گاه مطیع و گاه منتقد، کارنامهای از خود بهجای گذاشت که از نیک و بد در آن میتوان جستوجو کرد. از همین رو، برخی از میراث حکمت مانند دانشگاه تهران، ورزشگاه امجدیه و آثار مکتوب همچنان در جامعهی ایران ساری و جاری است.
